Timex Releases The Keith Haring Collection – WWD

Estimated read time 2 min read

Shaped by the dynamic New York graffiti scene of the 1970s and 1980s, Keith Haring surfaced as a champion of urban subculture merged with the lessons of Pop Art. When he opened the Pop Shop in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood, he created an extension of his creative work, via the format of a lively boutique where his art could be accessible to everyone, campaigning for an alternate route to democratize access to his art.

At a time when both the art and watch worlds were undergoing a fundamental transformation, Haring partnered with Swatch in 1986 to place his artwork on affordable battery-powered quartz watches.

Now, even 30 years after Haring’s death, his legacy continues with a new watch collaboration with Timex, a three-piece collection that features the late artist’s black and white color scheme that pays tribute to his earliest Pop Art drawings hastily sketched with chalk on the empty black panels of New York City’s subways.

First up is the Timex x Keith Haring Easy Reader ($99), in a 38mm case featuring an Indiglo backlight, quartz movement, mineral glass crystal, water-resistant to 30 meters and finished with a customized strap featuring Haring’s work.
